Tiny Canvases, Big Ideas: A Sunday at Art Club

How much personality can you fit on a tiny canvas? Sunday’s Art Club offered a pretty solid answer: a lot.

This past Sunday, teens and adults (and at least one middle aged dad) gathered at Piedmont Griffin for an evening of making art, swapping ideas, and enjoying good company. The tables filled with sketchbooks, paint, markers, and miniature canvases destined for future Griffin Arts Council members.

A little canvas goes a long way

Working small has a way of shaking things loose and reducing things down to what’s really important. A bold stroke of color, a little character, a few unexpected lines and suddenly a blank square becomes something entirely its own. These tiny artworks are a personal, handmade way to share our creative community with the members who help support it.

Artists also worked on their own projects, from sketchbook drawings and ipad screens to colorful not-so-tiny canvases. No two pieces needed to look alike and nobody needed to be at the same point in their creative journey.

That’s what’s great about Art Club- Teens and adults can make things side by side, see what someone else is trying, and follow an idea just because it sounds fun. Sometimes the best inspiration is sitting across the table.

More than what we made

The miniature canvases were a highlight, but people spending time together, making space for creativity, and having a genuinely good time are what its all about. A table full of art supplies is a pretty good replacement for another night of scrolling.

Thank you to everyone who came out, brought their imagination, shared the table, and helped make Sunday such a fun night. And a special thank you to Piedmont Brewery Griffin for donating its meeting space, Jay Daniel Photography for capturing the night, and Lucky You Tattoo for organizing the event!

Join us next time!

Bring a project, bring your supplies, and bring whatever idea has been waiting for a little attention. Monthly Art Club is free, and it’s a chance to make something in the company of other people who love making things.

Keep an eye on our events calendar for the next gathering. And if you’d like to help keep Griffin’s creative community growing, learn about becoming a member.

We’ll save you a spot at the table.
